Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to get a decent shot when the sun is shining right at you? This is especially noticeable if you are trying to take someone's picture with the sun at their back. When you do this, you end up with harsh shadows on the subjects face. If you turn them around, the sun is blinding them and they end up squinting and making a horrible face. It seems like you can't win! Here in Ft. Worth, Tx we have more than our fair share of the bright Sun. The solution... Fill Flash!

Almost all digital cameras have the ability to turn on the flash or turn it off. Most people leave it set on automatic all the time. If you are in the above situation, put the sun at your subjects back and turn the flash to on. You will usually see a button with a lightning bolt. Just press that until you see the flash turned on. If you see a line through the bolt or the word "auto" keep going. Now, the flash will fire when you take the picture. It will "fill" in the subjects face and reduce the harsh shadow. Hence the name "fill flash." Simple huh? Give it a try next time you are out and leave a comment to let me know the results.

So I now have a third Nikon Camera but it's not the kind you might think. It is a Nikon FE from 1978. It was one of the top cameras from the late 70's and early 80's.

It is in great condition and appears that all the parts work just fine. I just need to get two new batteries for it and some film. This should be fun to play with.

It also came with a Nikon 50mm f2.0 lens. This is an old manual focus lens that is VERY sharp. I wonder what kind of looks I will get when I'm out around Ft. Worth shooting with this camera? I don't care.. it will be fun and that's all that matters!
