I just found out that I was shown on the NBC DFW news a few times recently. They covered the Vandergriff Movie and I can be seen in the background. The first clip shows me talking to another photographer. I am in the blue shirt at 1:03 - 1:12. In the next shot you can only see me for a second. I am covered in camera gear. It is at the 1:27 -1:28 mark. You can see the clip here: NBC DFW Vandergriff Movie
If you read my last post about the Colonial you know that I barely dodged a tornado this week. Well, they came after me again on Tuesday! Here in DFW (Dallas/Ft. Worth) there were 12 tornados on Tuesday! They were around us in every direction. One even came within a half mile of my house. The storms also had the added bonus of baseball size hail!
I took my wife and kids to the local movie theater at North East Mall in Hurst, Tx and we waited the storm out there. Unfortunately, the theater decided not to show any movies during the storm and gave rain checks. So it was boring, but at least safe! Here is a picture of the storm in the distance after I got home. I sure hope this weather is over for the year. I'm getting tired of dodging tornadoes!

Wow, what a day! I got a chance to do some awesome photography in the morning, went jet skiing in the afternoon, and dodged tornadoes in the evening. Whew, I'm beat!
I was asked by a local newspaper, the Texas Blaze, to go to the Colonial and get some shots. Hmm, a media pass that allows me to get INSIDE the ropes at a PGA tournament and take shots.. That's a no brainer! So here for your viewing pleasure are a few of the shots I took this morning.
Oh, and what's that about the tornado you ask?? After a hot day at the Colonial, we decided to head to my parents lake house for a little fun and swimming. Turns out the water was freezing still, however the Jet Skii was a blast as always. Then came the storm. The tornado came right over our house as it was forming. Luckily, it didn't turn into a defined funnel until it had already passed. You gotta love Texas weather!
Well, it finally happened! You do photography long enough and you are bound to break something!
There I was getting ready to go on a shoot when my Nikon D300 strap got snagged on something. The result was me losing my balance and tumbling to the ground. My heart raced as I lifted the camera, hoping inside it would be just fine.. But it wasn't! As you can see, the entire LCD shattered!! Thank goodness I have a backup for all of my equipment. Crisis averted!
After getting back from my photo shoot, I decided to inspect the camera in more detail. The display actually still worked and the camera functions just fine. It wasn't actually the LCD that cracked. Rather, it was a piece of glass built into the camera over the LCD.
I decided that I could do the repair myself. I found the parts on EBay It arrived today and was time for surgery. You can see the operating table to the right.
It took a little effort and about 20 minutes. In the end, the operation was successful. My camera is like new again! I love Nikons! They really are tough. See below for the after picture.
I have a super cool gig in Fort Worth, Tx this weekend! It's not another movie but just as exciting. Maybe even more so! I can't disclose what it is just yet. But I will be posting pictures on Sunday. Stay tuned!!
